"I always wanted to learn a martial art, but did not realize how the experience would impact all areas of my life. My body, mind, and spirit are stronger through my training in Chito-ryu Karate. I have come to know more about the martial ways, its history and culture, and most of all more about myself. I am extremely fortunate to be a student of Sensei Mina Ludwig, Shihan, 5th dan. She is passionate and dedicated to her training which is evident in her teaching. Yoseikan Yoshisu is a diverse group of karateka (karate students) who practice and train hard together, but also have fun together outside of the dojo."

"It's a place where you lose the idea of what your limits are and teaches you greater control of your surroundings. All of this seems to happen without you realizing it as you practice the punch you learned on the first day of class. It's also a lot of fun, and you feel more alive as you learn and perform new fighting techniques."

"The dojo is filled with positive energy that welcomes everybody even if he/she knows nothing about Karate. By striving to improve not only physical, but mental strengths together with the other students, one will obtain a sense of trust and brotherhood (and sisterhood, if you will) within the dojo. The class is taught in the traditional Japanese manner (showing respect to dojo and each other at all times); this is a great way to learn Japanese language and culture. The instructor (‘sensei’ in Japanese), Ludwig Sensei is not only strong, but also generous and has a great sense of humour!"

"Karate is a great learning experience! The training can be very intense. Sometimes I wake up the next morning barely being able to move my arms. Sometimes they feel as though I had lifted weights, but it was all those punches! Our Sensei, Mina Ludwig, is very encouraging and understanding and totally awesome! She gives very clear instructions and never looses patience with us even if we loose it with ourselves. Through this class I have met some of my closest friends. We have fun get-togethers and dinner parties that bring us closer together as a family."

-Brittnee Strachen

"Karate is not just a workout, its a way of life. I started not long ago with absolutely no knowledge of any martial arts. With the skill and devotion of our Sensei, I and five of my dojo brothers and sisters just earned our yellow belts. Our Sensei is one of the best teachers I have had at UC. The class has not only strengthened me physically but mentally as well. I absolutely love this class and I have deep respect for our Sensei as well as our Sempai. I look forward to monday and thursday nights every week!"

-Jessie Catenacci

"I was always intrigued by Martial Arts, but only took myself seriously once the course "Traditional Karate & Defense" was offered at the CRC. Despite being multilingual, I was insecure about learning a few Japanese terms, along with my ability to follow the class. Yet my classmates and instructor have shown themselves very patient, encouraging and relating to my situation."
